Geographic Focus: Skadden operates a global platform with 21 offices across North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. The London office provides an integrated U.K., European and U.S. practice and routinely assembles Europe/U.S. cross-border teams for large M&A, capital markets, private equity, regulatory and international arbitration matters.
Training Contract
The training contract comprises four six-month seats (total two years). Trainees typically rotate through multiple practice areas and are assigned a qualified solicitor mentor throughout the training contract. The firm aims for each trainee to complete at least one seat in the Corporate group during the first year. Shortly after qualification, new associates attend a firm-wide retreat in New York for intensive networking, business and legal skills training.
- Starting Salary: £58,000 (Year 1); £63,000 (Year 2)
- NQ Salary: £177,000 (newly qualified) plus discretionary year-end bonus
- Trainee Intake: Roughly 20 trainees per intake (start in September each year)
- Academic Requirements: A consistent record of outstanding academic achievement, including a minimum 2:1 (or equivalent) at degree level. Undergraduate candidates must have at least reached the penultimate year of a law degree or final year of a non-law degree to apply for vacation schemes.

Programmes & Schemes
A vacation placement programme designed to provide first-hand experience of working on global transactions and exposure to the firm's culture. Vacation scheme participants sit in two departments during the placement and the scheme forms the exclusive route by which Skadden offers training contracts.
