Terms of Service
Last Updated: May 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
YourLegalLadder is a product operated by YourLegalLadder Technologies - FZCO, a free-zone company registered at IFZA Business Park, Dubai Digital Park, PO Box 342001, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai, United Arab Emirates ("the Company", "we", "us", or "our"). The YourLegalLadder platform, together with the features and content described in section 2, is referred to in these Terms as the "Service".
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use the Service. These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and the Company.
We recommend that you print a copy of these terms for future reference.
We may need to update these Terms from time to time, for example to reflect new features, changes in our pricing, changes to our sub-processors or service providers, security updates, or to comply with the law.
How we make changes:
- Material changes (changes that meaningfully affect your rights, our charges, or how we provide the Service) will take effect at least 30 days after we notify you by email or through a prominent notice on the Service. If you do not agree to a material change, you may close your account before the change takes effect and request a pro-rata refund of any unused portion of a paid subscription.
- Minor changes (such as clarifications, formatting, or fixing typos) and changes required by law may take effect immediately, and we will indicate the most recent change date on this page.
Continuing to use the Service after a change has taken effect means you accept the updated Terms.
2. Description of Service
The Service is an educational technology platform that provides AI-powered tools and resources to assist individuals in preparing Training Contract applications for UK law firms. The Service includes:
- AI-generated outlines and suggestions for application questions
- Firm intelligence cards and research materials
- Application tracking and management tools
- Educational content and guidance
- SQE preparation tools (practice questions, flashcards, mock exams, AI study assistant)
- 1:1 mentoring and document reviews delivered by independent mentors through the platform
Important: YourLegalLadder is an educational tool only. We do not guarantee that use of the Service will result in a successful Training Contract application, interview, or offer of employment. The Service is provided for informational and educational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice, career counselling, or employment services.
Mentoring carve-out: the mentoring features (1:1 video sessions, document reviews, in-app messaging, and digital products provided by mentors) are governed by separate Mentoring Terms (for mentees) and the Mentor Agreement (for mentors). Where there is a conflict between these Terms and either of those documents, the mentoring-specific document applies for matters relating to the mentoring features. Mentors are independent contractors who provide their services in their own capacity and not as agents of the Company. The Company does not supervise the content or quality of mentoring sessions, document feedback, or messages.
3. No Affiliation with Law Firms
YourLegalLadder is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or connected to any law firm listed on this platform. All firm information, including but not limited to firm profiles, practice areas, values, and application details, is compiled from publicly available sources for educational purposes only.
We make no representations or warranties regarding the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any firm information. Users are responsible for verifying all information directly with the relevant law firms before submitting applications.
4. User Accounts and Responsibilities
4.1 Your account
To access certain features of the Service, you must create an account. You agree to:
- Provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration
- Maintain and promptly update your account information
- Maintain the security of your password and account
- Accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account
- Notify us immediately of any unauthorised use of your account
- Be at least 18 years old. The Service is not intended for individuals under 18, who must not register an account.
You are solely responsible for the content you submit through the Service, including evidence items, writing samples, and application materials. You warrant that all content you submit is accurate, does not infringe any third-party rights, and complies with all applicable laws.
4.2 Acceptable Use Policy
The Service is provided to help aspiring lawyers prepare authentic, well-evidenced applications and study for the SQE. To keep the Service safe, useful, and lawful for everyone, you agree not to do any of the following while using the Service:
Misuse of AI features and academic integrity:
- Submit AI-generated content to a law firm, university, regulator, or other institution as if it were entirely your own work, where doing so would breach that institution's academic-integrity, application-honesty, or AI-disclosure rules
- Use the Service to generate content that is dishonest, misleading, or fabricated, including fake experiences in your evidence bank, invented qualifications, fabricated case-law references, or made-up commercial-awareness facts
- Use the Service to draft, plan, or facilitate any form of professional misconduct, fraud, or breach of regulatory rules (including the Solicitors Regulation Authority ("SRA") Standards and Regulations and the Bar Standards Board ("BSB") Handbook)
- Use the Service to assist with cheating in any examination or assessment (including the SQE itself)
Conduct on the platform:
- Harass, threaten, abuse, discriminate against, or send sexually inappropriate communications to any other user, mentor, or member of our team
- Impersonate another person, mentor, law firm, or YourLegalLadder itself
- Submit content that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, or that infringes another person's intellectual property, privacy, or other rights
- Share login credentials or otherwise allow another person to use your account
Technical and commercial restrictions:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to discover the source code of the Service, except to the extent permitted by applicable law
- Scrape, spider, crawl, bulk-download, or otherwise extract content (including firm profiles, briefings, study notes, mock-exam questions, or other resources) from the Service, except as expressly permitted
- Use bots, automated tools, or third-party software to interact with the Service in ways that are not made available through our user interface
- Resell, sublicense, redistribute, or commercially exploit the Service or any of its content (other than your own user content)
- Circumvent, disable, or otherwise interfere with security, authentication, payment, or rate-limiting features of the Service
- Use the Service in any way that imposes an unreasonable load on our infrastructure or that is intended to disrupt or degrade the Service for other users
- Use the Service to develop a competing product, or to train any third-party AI model on content generated by or hosted on the Service
We may investigate suspected breaches of this Acceptable Use Policy. Where we find a breach, we may apply the suspension, cure, and termination measures set out in section 5.4 and section 10. Serious breaches (in particular fraud, harassment, or behaviour that creates a genuine risk of harm) may be reported to the police, the SRA, the BSB, or any other relevant regulator.
5. Payment Terms and Refund Policy
5.1 One-Off Payments and your 14-day cancellation right
Under the UK Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 you would normally have 14 days from purchase to cancel a digital service bought online. Because your AI-generated outline (or other one-off purchase) is delivered immediately at checkout, by ticking the acceptance box at checkout you expressly consent to the supply of the service beginning immediately and acknowledge that you lose your 14-day right of cancellation in respect of any outline (or other content) that has already been delivered.
Subject to the right above, one-off payments are non-refundable once the AI-generated content has been delivered. Refunds for unused, undelivered purchases (for example a payment that did not produce an outline due to a technical fault) can be requested by emailing help@yourlegalladder.com.
5.2 Subscriptions and your 14-day cancellation right
Subscription fees are billed in advance on a monthly basis. Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled by you before the renewal date.
The same 14-day cancellation right described in section 5.1 applies to subscriptions. Because your subscription is activated immediately at checkout, by ticking the acceptance box at checkout you expressly consent to the service beginning immediately and acknowledge that you lose your 14-day right of cancellation in respect of any part of the subscription period you have already used. Used periods of a subscription are non-refundable, including partial refunds for unused portions of an already-started billing period.
You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you continue to have access until the end of that period.
Mentoring credits: the corresponding right and waiver mechanism for mentoring purchases is set out in our Mentoring Terms.
5.3 Pricing Changes
We reserve the right to modify our pricing at any time. Price changes will be communicated to existing subscribers at least 30 days in advance. Price changes will apply to new subscriptions immediately and to existing subscriptions upon renewal. If you do not agree to a price increase, you may cancel your subscription before the renewal date.
5.4 Suspension or Cancellation by Us
We may suspend or cancel your subscription only on the grounds set out in this section.
Immediate cancellation or suspension, on written notice (which may take effect at the time of notice), is permitted where:
- You have committed (or we have a reasonable basis to believe you have committed) fraud or illegal activity in connection with the Service
- You have engaged in abusive, harassing, threatening, or unlawful behaviour towards us, another user, or a third party in connection with the Service
- Your use of the Service creates a genuine and material risk of harm to us, our other users, or the security or integrity of the Service
- We are required to do so by law, by an order of a court or regulator, or to comply with our payment processor's rules
Cancellation for other material breach, including non-payment of fees and material breach of these Terms that is capable of being remedied, is permitted only after we have:
- Notified you of the breach in writing (which can be by email)
- Given you a reasonable cure period of at least 14 days from the date of notice to put the breach right
- Confirmed to you that the breach has not been remedied within that period
Cancellation for our convenience (for example because we are discontinuing the Service or a particular plan) is permitted on at least 30 days' written notice. In this case we will provide a pro-rata refund of any unused portion of your paid subscription period and, where reasonably possible, transition options for your data.
Where we cancel your subscription for reasons other than your breach, we will provide a pro-rata refund of any unused portion of your paid subscription period.
6. Intellectual Property and Your Content
6.1 Our intellectual property
The Service, including all content, features, functionality, software, and materials we create (such as our firm intelligence cards, commercial-awareness briefings, study notes, mock-exam questions, AI prompts, design system, and brand), is owned by YourLegalLadder and protected by copyright, trademark, database, and other intellectual property laws.
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the Service for your personal, non-commercial use in connection with preparing Training Contract applications, studying for the SQE, and engaging mentors through the platform.
6.2 Restrictions on your use
You may not, except as expressly permitted by these Terms or applicable law:
- Copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Service
- Reverse engineer or attempt to extract source code from the Service
- Use the Service for any commercial purpose without our express written consent
- Remove any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices
Further restrictions on automated access, scraping, and use of our content for AI-training purposes are set out in section 4.2 (Acceptable Use Policy).
6.3 Your content and the licence you grant us
You own your content. Anything you submit through the Service, including your evidence-bank entries, writing samples, application question answers, profile information, messages to mentors, files you upload for document review, and any other content you create or upload (your "User Content"), remains yours. We do not claim ownership of your User Content.
Licence to us. So that we can actually run the Service for you, you grant YourLegalLadder a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, fully sublicensable (to our sub-processors) licence to host, store, copy, transmit, display, modify (only for formatting and technical-display purposes), and otherwise process your User Content for the limited purposes of:
- Providing the Service to you (for example storing your evidence bank, displaying your application sessions back to you, sending your documents to a mentor you have booked)
- Routing your User Content to the third-party AI providers and other sub-processors that power our features (subject to our AI Transparency Statement and Sub-processors page)
- Securing the Service, preventing fraud and abuse, and complying with our legal obligations
- Investigating reports under section 4.2 and the Mentoring Terms
- Producing aggregated and anonymised statistics about how the Service is used. Aggregated/anonymised data does not identify you and is not subject to the deletion right below
The licence is limited to what is necessary to deliver these purposes. We will not use your User Content for our marketing or for training third-party AI models without your separate, explicit consent. We will not sell your User Content.
Your warranties. You warrant that your User Content does not infringe any third party's intellectual property, privacy, or other rights and that you have all rights necessary to grant the licence above.
Duration and deletion. The licence above lasts only as long as the relevant User Content is on the Service. You can delete most User Content yourself from your account; on account closure your User Content is deleted or anonymised in line with our Privacy Policy. Anonymised, aggregated statistics derived from User Content may be retained because they no longer identify you.
7. AI-Generated Content
The Service utilises artificial intelligence to generate outlines, suggestions, and content. You acknowledge and agree that:
- AI-generated content is provided for educational and reference purposes only
- You are responsible for reviewing, editing, and personalising all AI-generated content
- AI-generated content may contain errors, inaccuracies, or outdated information
- You must not submit AI-generated content directly without substantial personalisation and review
- We are not responsible for the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of AI-generated content for your specific application
For the full statement on how we use AI, see our AI Transparency Statement.
8. Disclaimers and Limitations of Liability
8.1 No Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR ACCURACY.
8.2 No Guarantee of Success
We do not guarantee that use of the Service will result in:
- A successful Training Contract application
- An interview invitation
- An offer of employment
- Any specific outcome or result
Training Contract applications are subject to numerous factors beyond our control, including but not limited to: the number of applicants, firm hiring needs, your qualifications and experience, interview performance, and market conditions.
8.3 Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, YOURLEGALLADDER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM:
- Your use or inability to use the Service
- Any unauthorised access to or use of our servers or your account
- Any errors or omissions in any content
- Any failure to obtain a Training Contract or employment
- Any conduct or content of third parties on the Service
Our total liability to you for all claims arising from or related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or £100, whichever is greater.
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless YourLegalLadder, its officers, directors, employees, agents, and affiliates from and against any and all claims, damages, obligations, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from:
- Your use of the Service
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any third-party rights
- Any content you submit through the Service
10. Termination of Your Account
Termination by you: you can close your account at any time by emailing help@yourlegalladder.com or by using the account-closure option in your account settings (where available). Closing your account ends your right to use the Service. The refund position for any unused subscription, mentoring credits, or one-off purchase is set out in section 5 of these Terms and (for mentoring) in our Mentoring Terms.
Termination by us: the grounds, notice periods, and cure periods that apply when we suspend or cancel a subscription (set out in section 5.4) apply equally to termination of your account as a whole. In summary:
- We may terminate immediately on written notice for fraud, illegal activity, abusive or threatening behaviour, genuine and material risk of harm to the Service or its users, or where required by law or regulator action.
- We may terminate for other material breach of these Terms only after notifying you of the breach and giving you at least 14 days from the date of notice to put it right.
- We may terminate for our convenience on at least 30 days' written notice, in which case any unused portion of a paid subscription will be refunded pro rata.
Effect of termination:
- Your right to use the Service will end on the date the termination takes effect
- We will delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days from the date termination takes effect, except where we are required to retain it for legal or legitimate business purposes (see our Privacy Policy)
- You can request an export of your data (such as your evidence bank) before the termination takes effect; please email help@yourlegalladder.com at least 14 days before the termination takes effect so we can process the export in time
- The provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination, including limitations of liability, indemnities, intellectual property, and dispute-resolution provisions, will survive
Nothing in this section affects any statutory right you have under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, or other applicable consumer protection legislation that cannot be excluded or limited.
11. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. Nothing in this section prevents you from bringing proceedings in the courts of the part of the United Kingdom in which you reside, where applicable consumer protection law (including Competition and Markets Authority guidance) gives you that right — for example, a user resident in Scotland may bring proceedings in the Scottish courts. If you live outside the United Kingdom, you may have additional rights under your local consumer law that this section does not affect.
12. General Provisions
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and YourLegalLadder regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements and understandings.
Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.
